Preoperative Anesthesia Evaluation:

Many risks can be identified during a preoperative anesthesia consultation. This begins with filling out the health history as honestly and completely as possible. This includes:

  • Your medical conditions

  • Medications (including homeopathic, herbal, and recreational drugs,)

  • Allergies

  • History of severe heartburn or GERD

  • Previous sedations, anesthetics, and surgeries/procedures.

The anesthesiologist may order consultations and labs from other specialists to gather more data to determine if it is safe and appropriate to proceed in an office setting. The majority of patients who are in good general health or may have a medical condition that is well-controlled can proceed with the procedure. Some patients who have significant medical history may need to have their case rescheduled in order to optimize their medical care before they receive sedation or anesthesia.
